The Drum and Bley Ranch is located just 19 miles North of the farming and ranching community of Fort Sumner, NM. The access is on a well-maintained county road that splits the ranch. It is in the part of De Baca County known as the Gerhart Valley. This area has the reputation for some of the best grasslands in eastern New Mexico.
The ranch has been owned by the same family for 76 years.
This ranch is mainly comprised of gentle rolling hills covered mainly in Grama Grasses, but there are other species of grasses which includes Buffalo grass and Buck grass just to name a few. The soil is mainly a sandy loam soil that will flourish with a little rainfall.
Three wells, one being a submersible and two are windmills supply water to the ranch through a pipeline system. One large storage tank and five dirt tanks complement the system. The wells range in depth from 110ft. to 300ft.
This ranch is well suited for either a cow/calf or yearling operation. For the first thirty years it was mainly just a cow/calf operation but as the times have change the owner has run some of the calves over as yearling or purchased calves to summer, whatever the conditions allowed.
Game includes Mule deer, Antelope, and Blue Quail.
